ALICE households, residing in diverse communities across Pennsylvania, encounter financial constraints despite earning incomes that exceed the Federal Poverty Level. These men and women, representing various races and ethnicities, live in rural, urban, and suburban areas, underscoring the widespread nature of income constraints.


Employed

ALICE individuals contribute to the workforce in essential roles such as cashiers, health care workers, security guards, laborers, and child care workers. Their employment, however, does not shield them from the economic difficulties they face in meeting basic needs, emphasizing the intricate relationship between employment and financial security.

In Monroe County alone, 43% of residents find themselves in ALICE households. This statistic underscores the pervasive nature of financial hardship even in seemingly affluent areas, shedding light on the challenges faced by a significant portion of the community. ALICE represents a diverse and often overlooked segment of the population striving to make ends meet.
